Top 5 Tips To Writing Wedding Thank You Cards

Being newly married is a wonderful experience. The wedding ceremony, buying your wedding dress, going on your honeymoon vacation and opening your wedding presents. Now it’s time to thank everyone for their lovely gifts. Writing wedding thank you cards is different from writing generic thank you cards. There is an etiquette to writing your thank you cards. Here are some tips.

1. Send Your Wedding Thank You Cards Within 3 Months
Don’t let your guest wait 6 months to a year for a thank you card. They could worry that you never got their gift or that the letter was lost in the mail. It’s best, then, to mail your thank you cards within three months from your wedding date.

2. Write A Unique, Personal Thank You Card
It’s strongly discouraged to sent a pre-printed, pre-written generic thank you card for each of your guests. This could diminish the thoughtfulness of the gift one guest has given you. Instead, spend an afternoon to write a quick, personal thank you by including what you did with the gift and how appreciative you are that they came to the wedding and gave you a gift.

3. Write A Thank You Card For Each Gift You Receive
If one of your guests gives you two gifts, then it is customary to give them two thank you cards. This often happens with your parents. They may pay for a certain portion of the wedding and then buy you a bedroom set. Honor each gift and write separate thank you cards.

4. Write Your Thank You Cards in Black or Blue Ink
There are many choices for ink colors now adays such as pink, purple or green. It sounds like a nice idea to write your thank you cards with one of the colors in your wedding, but it is customary to write in black or blue ink as it is more easily readable for older guests.

5. Include A Picture Or Two On The Thank You Card
It is always a great idea to include a picture of the newly married couple. Many gifts could arrive from people who could not make it to your wedding due to travel issues or financial issues or medical issues. If that is the case, they would simply love a picture of your wedding.

If anything else, get your wedding thank you cards out as quick as you can, write from the heart and include a picture! Have fun!
