Why the increase? Many women today are putting career and themselves first before deciding to have a baby. With delaying pregnancy, though, comes anxiety over whether your eggs are “glistening and ripe” and if your body is geared up for baby. Here are some tips to get your body and mind baby-ready.

Maintain A Fertile Weight

Scientists have long known that body fat is the key to fertility in women. Having too little or too much can inhibit fertility so it is important to maintain a fertile body weight. If your body-mass index is less than 18.5 or more than 25, then you might be infertile. Fortunately, just losing or gaining a minimum of 5 lbs can make you fertile again.

Foods That Affect Fertility

Foods that can contribute to infertility include simple carbs such as white bread, cookies, and sugar-filled sodas; large intake of animal protein and trans fat.
Foods that contribute to fertility are slow acting carbs like brown rice and pasta; plant proteins found in tofu, beans and nuts and one to two servings of full-fat dairy which can be found in milk or ice cream.

Quit Smoking And Drinking

It’s important to quit smoking and drinking before you decide to conceive. Smoking increases your odds of infertility by up to 30% and drinking impairs fertility. So it’s a good idea to slowly quit and get your body healthy both physically and mentally before having children.
